NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

"I am rich today with Autumn's gold,
All that my covetous hands can hold;
Frost-painted leaves and goldenrod,
A goldfinch on a milkweed pod,
Huge golden pumpkins in the field
With heaps of corn from a bounteous yield,
Golden apples heavy on the trees
Rivaling those of Hesperides,
Golden rays of balmy sunshine spread
Over all like butter on warm bread;
And the harvest moon will this night unfold
The streams running full of molten gold.
Oh, who could find a dearth of bliss
With autumn glory such as this!"

Gladys Harp

Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot! This month we celebrate Guy Fawkes night (or Fireworks night, as it's more commonly known), with festive bonfire nights and sensational firework displays bursting and exploding all over London to commemorate England's most famous traitor. Alexandra Palace, Battersea Park and Crystal Palace to name but a few, will be hosting events but there are many more, so wrap up warm and enjoy the night! This is a country of changing seasons and although we're headed towards Winter, its not quite here yet. Chilly mornings and blustery winds  have replaced the warmer weather of the Summer months, but every season has its virtues. At this time of year we can look forward to other things; crisp frosty days, cosy fireplaces, toffee apples, conkers, carpets of leaves, strolls through the park, a burning auburn sunset, and a warming cup of hot chocolate or a spicy glass of mulled wine as the evenings draw in. Right now, London is aflame with Autumn colour, so don't forget to get out and about and explore all that our wonderful city has to offer, as before we know it, Christmas will be here!

REGENT STREET MOTOR SHOW
AND
BONHAM'S LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN.
2nd November 2019 and 3rd November 2019

Engines at the ready for a weekend of motoring spectacle sponsored by Bohnam's and the Royal Automobile Club. On Saturday 2nd November, Regent's Street will be pedestrianised for the country's biggest free-to-view car show. Early Victorian and Edwardian transportation will be wonderfully represented with over one hundred pre-1905 vintage cars present. Watch these classic vehicles parade in the annual 'Veteran Car Concours d'Elegance' on Regent Street - ahead of the Bonham's London to Brighton Veteran car run which takes place the following day. Joining these beautiful motors will be a collection of classic cars, and also highly desirable - and instagrammable - contemporary cars, bridging time within automotive history, as the Motor Show celebrates the past and showcases the future. The following day, more than 400 pre-1905 cars will leave Hyde Park, headed for Brighton, in what is the world's longest running motoring event, commemorating the Emancipation Run of 1896, which celebrated the new found freedom motorists were granted with the repeal of the Red Flag Act. (At the time, this act raised the speed limit to 14mph and abolished the need for a man carrying a red flag to walk ahead of the cars whenever they were being driven!) These two fantastic motoring events aren't just for car aficionado's, as alongside the events, there will be an array of on-street activity for all ages to enjoy.

Her eye for the unusual also translated to her commercial photography, including fashion and advertising, as well as her social documentary projects. Her relationship with Picasso had a profound affect on both their careers. She documented the creation of hid most political work, Guernica in 1937,  and together they made a series of portraits combining experimental photographic and printmaking techniques. in her later life, Maar concentrated on painting, only returning to her original passion in her seventies. There is ticket availability but it is advised to book online in advance to avoid disappointment.

TROY: MYTH AND REALITY
21st November 2019 - 8th March 2020

This Autumn prepare to be inspired by the legend of Troy, the setting for Homer's Iliad, the epic story of passion, betrayal and war; a wooden horse full of soldiers, Achilles, Patroclus, Hector, Menelaos, Paris, Helen, Troilus and Cressida. All these characters feature, as the British Museum opens its doors to the Ancient city. Through priceless artefacts such as Classical Greek vases and a variety of Bronze Age discoveries, the exhibition explores the debate on the history of Troy. Was it real? Did it exist? Or was it just a myth, a figment of Homer's imagination. Looking at archaeological evidence from excavations from the 1870's, to the literary world with works from VIrgil, Chaucer and Shakespeare featuring, this new and exciting exhibition looks to answer some of these questions. There is ticket availability but it is advised to book in advance on line in order to avoid disappointment.
