Toledo
Toledo is a trip down memory lane – a mythical maze of cobblestone lanes containing fine examples of both Moorish and Christian architecture. This is another UNESCO world heritage site where Jews, Christians and Muslims co-existed for hundreds of years. Take a mesmerising wander down the back lanes where you can imagine the sound of hammers on anvils forging steel blades. At the highest point in the city is The Alcázar, a symbolic building towering above the rooftops with incredible views of the cathedral and the surrounding countryside. The site has been reopened as the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Library and the Museum of the Army.
Seville
Often referred to as the ‘Jewel of Andalucia’, Seville is arguably Spain’s most colourful city which is renowned for its historic palaces and churches. The most famous landmark being the baroque cathedral, which is the largest of its kind in the world and where you will capture the most breathtaking views of the city. The Alcázar of Seville is a royal palace and one of the most representative monumental compounds in the city. It was most recently featured as a location for the Game of Thrones TV series. Today, Seville is a bustling modern destination where new meets old creating a fascinating city full of charm.
Granada
Granada is the land of a thousand castles where a blend of medieval Islamic history and quintessential Spanish culture are infused with monumental buildings, classic tapas bars and counterculture graffiti art. Explore the fairytale-like Alhambra, a 9th century fortress-palace complex, that perches on top of a hill rising high above Granada and backed by the spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains.
